Teaching & Learning Scholars Certification - Cohort 3
Teaching & Learning Scholars Certificate
OVERVIEW
The United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship® (USASBE) Teaching and Learning Scholars (T&LS) Certification Program is designed to help educators within any context build knowledge and competencies in both entrepreneurial content and effective pedagogical practices (e.g. both the what and how of teaching entrepreneurship).
The Teaching and Learning Scholars Certificate Program is intentionally designed with five elements:
1. Pre-Program Preparations
2. Welcome Reception & Introductions
3. Entrepreneurship Infusion Bootcamp
4. Monthly Work Sessions and Cohort Meetings
5. Final Presentations & Demonstrations
Who will benefit from this program?
Ultimately STUDENTS and ASPIRING ENTREPRENEURS benefit from this program. But in order to do that, we need to embrace teaching and learning from a more student-centric approach.
This course was designed with the following in mind:
Educators
seeking to pervasively infuse experiential entrepreneurship components into courses, modules, experiences or programs
Program Directors or Aspiring Directors
creating impactful, research-based and results-oriented student-led entrepreneurship programs
Clinical Instructors
developing strategies for implementing student-focused, flexible course activities and modules for courses they teach
Develop the kind of relationships with students that form the basis of their future success!
Modules and Session Descriptons
1. Pre-program Preparations
We encourage participants to identify desired outcomes they would like for their students. Participants sometimes begin the T&LS program with preconceived classes or concrete concepts.
The T&LS program is designed to deconstruct, redesign, and reconstruct their concept with a replicable process for recreating effective, student-centered designs of their entrepreneurship course/program/module. The participant’s initial idea will likely go through numerous iterations based on intentional challenges and collaborative engagements throughout the T&LS program.
2. Welcome Reception & Introductions (Oct 26, 2022)
Participants are invited to a facilitated, but relaxed, networking welcome reception before the Bootcamp. Participants will get to know instructors, mentors, and other participants.
3. Entrepreneurship Infusion Bootcamp (Oct 27, 2022)
The purpose of the Entrepreneurship Infusion Bootcamp is to orient participants through active and experiential exercises to what it means to be an entrepreneurship educator. It will utilize essential frameworks and concepts within its content, and lead instructors will engage learners by modeling active, experiential exercises that can be used or modified within classrooms, courses, and/or communities.
Whether you are newer to entrepreneurship education or bring years of experience to this process, we will work together, teach each other, learn from a variety of experiences and act as a peer support network for each other as we create and grow ideas.
The learning objectives of this Bootcamp is to understand putting together an effective entrepreneurship program is both a cerebral and muscular experience. As participants work through the remaining modules over six (6) months to develop a new course, module, exercise, co-curricular experience, program, etc., the concepts central to the Bootcamp can be kept in the forefront of the experience being created.
4. Monthly Cohort Sessions & Mentor Meetings
For the following 6 months, the participants will be put into pairs to complete set deliverables toward the design of their projects. A mentor will be assigned to each pair. Participants will report back as a cohort each month to share progress, insights, and feedback.
See the Agenda for Scheduled Topics and Dates
5. Final Presentations & Demonstrations Day
Either virtual or in conjunction with the annual USASBE Conference or regional Symposium, peer participants and expert educators in the field of entrepreneurship will provide feedback and insight on your final project.
The demo/presentation should include an overview of the course, program, module or experience that has been developed throughout the program and the correlating elements of the business model canvas. If the program has already been implemented or piloted, any results or learnings can also be shared. Participants should anticipate answering 10 minutes of Q&A from a panel of experts.
